We analysed 3 million Hellopeter reviews across 12 industries to find out what actually drives customer trust in South Africa. The sectors winning, the ones losing, and the five behaviours separating high-Trust Index businesses from the rest.

Trust is the most valuable currency a South African business can hold, and it has never been harder to earn. Customers are more vocal, more public, and more decisive than at any point in the last decade. A single unanswered complaint on Hellopeter can cost you three new customers who read it before they ever contact you.
To understand what separates businesses winning on trust from those losing it, we analysed 3 million Hellopeter reviews published between January 2025 and February 2026. We looked at 12 industries, mapped response rates, Trust Index scores, and resolution times, and found five consistent behaviours that high-Trust Index businesses share.
What the data shows
Insurance and banking continue to dominate Hellopeter volume, together accounting for 41% of all reviews on the platform. Short-term insurance businesses hold the highest average Trust Index at 7.4, driven largely by King Price, Outsurance, and Momentum. Telecommunications lags at 5.1.

Across every industry we studied, the same five patterns appear in businesses with a Trust Index above 7.5. These are not aspirational values. They are measurable, operational behaviours with a direct correlation to score improvement.
Methodology
Data was drawn from Hellopeter platform reviews published between 1 January 2025 and 28 February 2026. Only businesses with a minimum of 50 reviews in the period were included in industry benchmarks. Trust Index scores reflect the platform's composite metric incorporating volume, recency, response rate, and resolution time.
